  26. It has. You've ended up with both a point and a particle (single point 
  27. poly) in the same place. This seems to be a side effect of welding. 
  28. To get rid of the spp, make sure you're in Polygon mode, select it, and
  29. hit the Z key to delete it. If  you're in Point mode when you select it, you'll 
  30. lose your other geometry that you just welded to.
